The Arena Is The Largest Rugby-Specific Stadium In England Outside Of Twickenham

Home to Darlington Mowden Park RFC, the Arena is the largest rugby-specific stadium in England outside of Twickenham. Having hosted an array of sports including rugby union, rugby league, football, cycling and boxing, the Arena has quickly established itself as a landmark sporting venue in the North East.

Since moving to the Arena in 2013, DMP have achieved 2 promotions and currently compete in National One – the third tier of English rugby. The club operate over 25 teams, from under 7s right through to a Premiership ladies side, and are always open to new members. 

The Arena currently hosts a number of other sporting activities, with a boxing gym and dance studio on site.

The world famous All Blacks also called the Arena home during their victorious Rugby World Cup campaign in 2015, and more recently the Cook Islands rugby league team also chose the stadium as their training base for RLWC 2021. With its outstanding transport links and proximity to the 5 star Rockliffe Hall hotel, the Arena continues to be the choice of many first class international sides.

The RFU have utilised the venue on many occasions for one off fixtures and events, from U20s and Senior Women’s International fixtures to Premiership 7s tournaments and the Papa Johns Community Cup. The Arena is the perfect venue for any large scale rugby events as well as football having hosted Middlesbrough, Newcastle, Hartlepool and Darlington fixtures over the last decade.

Aside from the rugby, the Arena’s versatile layout and car parks have also lent themselves to mass participation cycling events, live boxing and motorcycling.
